Biography
Dr. Benson Hill is the Information Security and Privacy Officer UMMC, leading the institution’s enterprise privacy, cybersecurity, and data governance programs. He holds concurrent faculty appointments as Assistant Professor in the School of Medicine’s Department of Advanced Biomedical Education and in the School of Health Related Professions’ Department of Health Informatics.
An attorney licensed in Mississippi, Texas, and Tennessee, and a registered nurse, Dr. Hill brings a distinctive combination of legal, clinical, and technical expertise to his work. His professional focus includes privacy and cybersecurity law, compliance strategy, health data ethics, and the governance of artificial intelligence in medicine and research.
At UMMC, Dr. Hill oversees regulatory compliance concerning all privacy and cybersecurity matters. He represents the institution on multiple committees devoted to integrity, information systems, and research compliance, and he serves on state and national working groups addressing cybersecurity resilience in the health care sector.
Dr. Hill is a frequent speaker at academic, legal, and industry forums on the intersection of law, medicine, and data ethics. His current research examines how the strength of privacy protections influences individuals’ willingness to disclose sensitive personal information in clinical and research settings. He continues to teach and mentor graduate and professional students on ethical data stewardship, health law, and privacy in biomedical research.
