The Mississippi Radiological Society Meeting met on October 22, 2019. Several of UMMC's Department of Radiology faculty, residents and members of our research team, along with UMMC medical students attended this meeting.

Disparities Conference at UMMC Cancer Center and Research Institute

Several members of the UMMC Cancer Center and Research Institute participated in the Delta Clinical and Translational Science Health Disparities Conference held this week at UMMC. UMMC, Tulane University and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center are working together to identify disparities and eliminate them.

Elliot T. Varney receives the Sloan Award

The Department of Radiology in conjunction with the University of Mississippi Medical Center's School of Medicine awarded Elliot T. Varney the Robert D. Sloan Award for the 2018-19 academic year. The award was presented at the 56th Annual Honors Day on May 4, 2018, in the Norman C. Nelson Student Union conference center.

Dr. Ruth Gershon named 2019 RLI Leadership Summit Scholar

Dr. Ruth Gershon has been selected as one of 10 award recipients by the Radiology Leadership Institute (RLI) for the 2019 RLI Leadership Summit Scholarship. It was stated by the RLI that they were encouraged by Dr. Gershon's engagement in leadership development during residency. Dr. Gershon is expected to attend the 2019 Summit in early September.

Niki Patel chosen as ACR Social Media Superuser

Student Niki Patel was chosen as a member of the ACR Social Media Superusers Committee. She is the first medical student member selected to join the committee. Her responsibilities will include sharing ACR news, announcements or offerings as it relates to events, medical student outreach and engagement, and RadXX/Women and Diversity. Niki's insights and daily experiences will help the ACR deliver social media content that’s relevant, authentic and engaging.

Niki also serves as an Institutional Student Representative for the Association of American Medical Colleges, Organization of Student Representatives (AAMC-OSR). She represents the UMMC on a national level within the AAMC organization by serving as a resource for students regarding the AAMC and aiding in the advancement of medical education at UMMC. She was selected as the Southern Regional Chair and will begin in her new role November 2019.

As a medical student pursuing radiology, UMMC Department of Radiology members can meet Niki in the research area as an active part of our departmental summer research program.

Resident/Fellow Graduation Banquet

The UMMC Department of Radiology will have an evening of celebration honoring our 2019 senior residents and fellows from 6-9 p.m. June 20, 2019, at the River Hills Club. Resident and Faculty of the Year will also be awarded on this grand occasion.
