The UMMC Department of Medicine’s Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Diabetes is proud to be the state’s only academic endocrinology division. Endocrinology focuses on hormones, glands, and their effect on the body's metabolism, reproductive growth, and development. Thus, our division offers a diverse group of faculty who provide state-of-the-art management of diabetes, thyroid disorders, bone and calcium metabolism, pituitary and adrenal, obesity and all types of endocrine disorders.
The division is committed to excellence and innovation in UMMC’s core missions of patient care, education, and research. Indeed, interdisciplinary clinical and research collaborations are a priority for the division, and we maintain productive collaborations with key colleagues in surgery, nuclear medicine and radiology as well as many other specialties available at our Jackson campus. Our division provides excellent clinical care with outpatient and inpatient consultative services in both general endocrinology and diabetes management. We have multiple outpatient locations, including the Pavilion, Grant’s Ferry, and the Jackson Medical Mall campuses.
In addition to direct patient care, members of our division are embedded in multiple UMMC patient safety and quality initiatives. This includes a particular focus on the safe management of diabetes care, including insulin education and optimizing glycemic control, in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. The division works in conjunction with the UMMC Chief Medical Officer’s performance improvement team to track glycemic safety metrics, allowing the creation of initiatives focused on national guidelines-based and evidence-based high quality care.
We take a team approach to endocrine care. Our experts include board-certified physicians and other specialty trained professionals who offer leading-edge diagnosis and treatment options. We offer a state-of-the art endocrinology fellowship training program to educate our future leaders in academic endocrinology.
