UMMC Patient Safety Week Winners

They raced for safety every day and won in patient experience and other efforts to keep patients first.

The overall 2022 performers received trophies and cheers Thursday as the University of Mississippi Medical Center completed the racecar-themed 2023 Patient Safety Week. It’s an annual tradition that celebrates UMMC’s quest to keep patients and employees safe from harm. The finish line is Chasing Zero, the Medical Center’s initiative to eliminate serious safety events affecting patients and to cultivate safer, more effective care.

  • People’s Choice Award for Best Internal Customer Service: First place, UMMC Police and Public Safety Department Behavioral Response Team; second, Office of Patient Experience; third, Respiratory Therapy.
  • Highest Percentage of ICARE Review in 2022 with More Than 40 ICAREs: First, Children’s Pharmacy; second, Children’s Laboratory; third, Children’s Emergency Department.
  • Highest Patient Experience for Clerk Courtesy and Respect with More Than 100 Survey Responses: First, Gulf Coast Bridgewater; second, Gulf Coast Neurology; third, Pavilion University Transplant.
  • Lowest Percentage of Call Abandonment: First, Pediatric Specialty Care; second, Children’s Imaging; third, Ancillary Imaging.
  • Highest Patient Experience Inpatient Overall Rating of Hospital with More Than 30 Survey Responses: First, 5 Children’s; second, 3 Children’s; third, CV Holding.
  • Highest Percentage of CHG Baths in Patients with a Central Line with More Than 100 Baths: First, Medical ICU; second, Cardiovascular ICU; third: Neurosciences ICU.
