Dr. Shashank Shekhar MD, MS is a dual ABPN board certified Neurologist with certification in General Neurology and Vascular Neurology (Stroke). He received his medical degree in 2006 from GMCH, Chandigarh, India, and later master’s degrees (2010) from the University of Helsinki, Finland. Currently, he is working as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Neurology, University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson, USA. In addition, he is serving as site CO-PI for NIH-funded StrokeNet studies. He is also site PI on two ongoing NIH funded clinical trials. He has published multiple peer-reviewed original articles, reviews and book chapters and presented at numerous international conferences. Through multidisciplinary collaboration, he is exploring the genetic and biochemical biomarkers that result in the vascular cognitive decline in stroke patients. Besides, he is also interested in stroke epidemiological studies, NIRS-based autoregulatory impairment. He is serving on editorial boards on multiple journals and is very active as a peer reviewer for journals and as a scientific blogger for the American Heart and Stroke Association. His research interest is broad and related to the field of Biomedical, Medical, and especially Neurosciences. His specific focus area involves cerebrovascular disease, neuroinflammation, neurocognition, autoregulation, biomarkers, epidemiology, dementia, vasculitis.
