Medicine/Pediatrics Residency Program

Welcome to the Medicine/Pediatrics (Med/Peds) residency program at UMMC.

We hope you will take this opportunity to learn more about our program and the training opportunities here. For over 20 years, we have built a combined residency program that excels in both adult and pediatric clinical training while also providing an individualized, cohesive experience for each resident based on their career plans, professional needs and personal goals.

Learn More About Our Program

Combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics (Med/Peds) training offers unique experiences in patient care from Neonatology to Geriatrics, and everything in between. Residents at UMMC equally split their time between both departments and are uniquely qualified because of their combined training. Our residents are well respected among their categorical peers, and it is not unusual for one of them to be selected as a chief resident in either categorical program.

"Since Med/Peds is a two-for-one specialty, I will be board certified in both internal medicine and pediatrics—it’s really marketable to have that skill set. We feel comfortable managing care for patients of all ages. It is especially helpful as a patient transitions from pediatric to adult care."
