Biography: Dr. William B. Geissler is the Alan E. Freeland Chair of Orthopaedic Hand Surgery and is the professor and chief of the Division of Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery and chief of the Section of Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He joined the UMMC Department of Orthopedics in 1992, specializing in shoulder and elbow surgery, hand surgery and advanced arthroscopic surgery. Geissler received his M.D. from Tulane University Medical School in 1985. He completed his internship and residency in Orthopaedic surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and then completed an AO Orthopaedic trauma fellowship in Aarau, Switzerland. Geissler then completed a one-year fellowship in advanced arthroscopy in sports medicine in Richmond, Virginia. Geissler returned to UMMC and completed a second fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery. Geissler particularly concentrates on upper extremity joint replacement, from the shoulder to the fingers, upper extremity trauma reconstruction, and arthroscopic surgery. He serves as a physician to numerous community high schools and the Mississippi Braves, and serves as a consultant for the Ole Miss Athletic Program.
