Biography: Dr. Carroll graduated from UMMC School of Medicine in 2007. After completing General Surgery residency training at LSU-Shreveport, he began his career in the division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery at LSU-Shreveport. In 2013, was also recruited to the Overton Brooks VAMC in Shreveport as a general surgeon. This combination of emergent and elective surgery has been instrumental in his development as a young surgeon.

Dr. Carroll was recruited back to UMMC in 2016. He has been fortunate to become involved with resident education as an Associate Program Director. He has also been the recipient of several student and resident teaching and advocacy awards. Currently, he is a member of the Medical Executive Committee, as well as multiple other educational and administrative committees at both UMMC and the VA. As director of the Acute Care component of the Trauma/Critical Care division, he is focusing on quality improvement initiatives. A key focus of his future clinical interest is enhancing minimally invasive/robotic surgery for these emergent surgical patients. This area of interest in robotic surgery will also focus on the training of the general surgery residents in this field.
