Postoperative Care of Suture Wounds after Punch Biopsy

  1. If a tape dressing is applied, leave it in place until you return. You may shower normally, but try to keep it as dry as possible. If it gets wet, dry by patting with a towel or use a blow dryer on a low setting.
  2. If no tape dressing is applied, clean the wound once daily with soap and water when you shower.
  3. Apply a thin layer of Polysporin ointment.
  4. Keep the suture area covered with a Band-Aid.
  5. You will have a return appointment in one week at which time we will remove the dressing and any sutures.
  6. If the wound becomes infected or you have difficulties or questions, please call us.
