Postoperative Care of Intact Dressings

  1. Leave the pressure dressing in place until your next appointment. You may shower but attempt to keep the dressing as dry as possible. If it gets wet, just pat it dry with a towel or use a blow-dryer on low to dry it out.
  2. If you have an additional wrap in place, you may remove it as instructed.
  3. If there is any bleeding, apply firm, CONTINUOUS pressure to the area for 20 minutes. If this does not stop the bleeding, call our office.
  4. If the surgery involved your head or face, keep your head elevated on at least two pillows whenever you lie down.
  5. No heavy lifting or bending from the waist over the next 10 days.
  6. Do not take any aspirin or aspirin-containing products for 10 days after surgery UNLESS prescribed by your doctor. Try to avoid alcohol as well. Both of these can contribute to bleeding problems.
  7. Avoid vigorous exercise or any activity strenuous enough to cause sweating.
  8. If the dressing becomes loose, reinforce it with tape. If you are unable to reinforce the dressing, or the dressing comes off completely, cover the wound and call our office for an appointment to have it replaced.
  9. Take prescribed medicines as directed.
