Biography

Dr. Patrick Smith is the Chief Faculty Affairs Officer for the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He also serves as the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine.

Within these roles, he oversees academic leadership recruitment and onboarding, contributes to leadership development, provides faculty consultation services, manages principles of academic life (viz., appointment, promotions, tenure, and faculty development) and is a principle leader in the University Professionalism Collaborative.

Dr. Smith earned the B.S. degree from Millsaps College and the M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi in clinical psychology. After completing additional training at the Jackson Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (JVAMC) in the area of psychophysiology, he completed his psychology residency training in the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC)/VAMC Psychology Internship Consortium.

Dr. Smith has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and editorials on the subject of professionalism and leadership in academic health centers. Presently, he is the Past Chair for Association of American Medical Colleges Group on Faculty Affairs. He has served on the Board of Directors for the National Register of Healthcare Providers in Psychology and has held leadership positions in the Association of Psychologists in Academic Health Centers, the Mississippi Psychological Association, and the Mississippi Board of Psychology.
