Biography
Dr. Pang obtained his MD from LanZhou Medical College in 1992 and his PhD from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in 1998. After completing his postdoctoral training in 2001, he joined the Department of Pediatrics, University of Mississippi Medical Center as a faculty member. With over 25 years of dedicated research in the developmental neuroscience field, Dr. Pang’s pioneering work in undercovering molecular mechanisms of oligodendrocyte development and myelination impairments in animal models has significantly advanced our understanding of Brain White Matter Injury, a devastating condition affecting millions of very premature infants. His reputation as a leading scholar in the field is evidenced by more than 65 publications with over 5,400 citations.
Dr. Pang is actively engaged in serving the scientific community. He serves on the editorial boards of three scientific journals. He has participated in ad hoc reviews of manuscripts for more than 30 neuroscience journals and grant applications for private and government agencies such as Parkinson UK, the French MS Research Society, the March of Dimes, and the Department of Defense (DOD). In addition to his research, Dr. Pang is deeply committed to the education mission of the Medical Center. He has trained and mentored many undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate (neonatal fellows) students.
