Biography

Dr. Yufeng Zheng joined UMMC as an associate professor in January 2021 and serves as a Program Director, Certificate in Analytics, and MS and Ph.D. in Biostatistics and Data Science since September 2021. He received his Ph.D. degree in Optical Engineering (with concentration in Image Processing) from the Tianjin University (one of 39 Project 985 Universities in China) in 1997. During 2001-2005 he worked with University of Louisville (Louisville, KY) as a postdoctoral research associate. He was a tenured professor with the Alcorn State University before this appointment. Dr. Zheng has been well funded ($2.2M total) as the PIs of several grants such as cybersecurity enhancement with user interaction biometrics (funded by NSA), canopy coverage estimation with neural network funded (USDA NIFA), multisensory image fusion and colorization (DOD ARO), thermal face recognition (DHS), dual face recognition system (DOD ONR), and acquisition of hyperspectral and multispectral imaging devices for research enhancement (DOD ARO ). He holds one utility patent in facial recognition, and has published 3 books, 6 book chapters, and more than 80 papers. His research interests focus on machine learning, neural network and artificial intelligence, information fusion, computer-aided detection/diagnosis, biometrics and computer vision.
