
Daniel "Dan" M. Woodliff
PROFESSOR EMERITUS
Biography
At the University of Mississippi he was elected president of Phi Eta Sigma the freshman scholastic honorary society. He was elected Editor of the Ole Miss Yearbook his senior year. He was selected Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities and the Ole Miss Student Hall of Fame. In Medical School at UMMC he identified Internal Medicine as his chosen field and went on to be named Chief Resident.
In private practice he served as Chief of Medicine for Baptist and St Dominic Hospitals. He was recognized for multiple years in America’s Top Physicians and Best Doctors in America.
In January 2009 he returned to UMMC as Associate Professor of Medicine. In 2013 he was elected Governor of the Mississippi Chapter of the American College of Physicians and served for four years representing the internists of his state.
At UMMC he served on the Education Council in the Department of Medicine and was Chair of the Vice Chancellor’s Community Relations Committee. In 2011 he was Chairman of the Primary Care Track Task Force. In 2013-14 he served as Chair of the Clinical Work Group studying the feasibility of starting a Center for Integrative Medicine at UMMC.
In 2018 he transitioned from the clinic to work for the Palliative Care Service. He was chosen for the Laureate Award for the Mississippi Chapter of ACP and was selected by his peers in the Department of Medicine to receive the Master Clinician Award.
