Biography
Dr. Olga Ostrovsky was born and raised in Western Siberia, part of the former Soviet Union. She attended Novosibirsk State Medical University and received her Doctor in Medicine degree in 1992. Afterwards, she moved to Almaty, Kazakhstan, where she trained in pediatrics/neonatology in addition to working as a pharmaceutical rep for Torrent Pharmaceuticals. She then moved to New Haven, Connecticut and was involved with Yale University’s HIV/AIDS research project while also volunteering for Yale’s Community Healthcare Van and AIDS Brigade, the first U.S.-government funded needle exchange program.
From Connecticut, Dr. Ostrovsky moved to Mississippi to start anesthesiology residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 1998. Upon graduating from residency, Dr. Ostrovsky joined UMMC’s anesthesiology faculty. This year marks her 25th year at UMMC. During this period, she has fulfilled several clinical and administrative roles, including Medical Director of Inpatient Surgical Center. She has also served as Chair of the Recruitment Committee for the past 10 years. She is very proud of the committee’s efforts in bringing so many talented and brilliant individuals to the department. Dr. Ostrovsky has also been a part of the liver transplant anesthesia team since the program was initiated and worked for the cardiac anesthesia team for over a decade. She received the Patricia Norman Faculty of the Year Award. An active member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Dr. Ostrovsky has served as an ASA delegate.
Dr. Ostrovsky resides in Madison, MS with her husband, Gleb, who she has been married to for 34 years. Their daughter, Galina, is currently a second year psychiatry resident at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
