Biography

Roselin Nittala, DrPH, FRSPH, is an Assistant Professor in the Radiation Oncology department. Her research interests and focus are analyzing racial disparities in the survival outcomes of cancer (head and neck, cervix, prostate, breast, lung) and identifying the treatment strategies to minimize the racial bias effect on health care outcomes, with a focus on cancer. Her work has led to significant insights into the impact of race on cancer survival rates and has proposed effective strategies to address these disparities.

Dr. Nittala’s journey in academia is a testament to her unwavering dedication. She earned a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) from Jackson State University in 2019. She immediately embarked on her postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) Department of Radiation Oncology. Her commitment to her field is evident in her 26 peer-reviewed cancer research articles and 30 peer-reviewed cancer research abstracts, which she has presented at National and International scientific meetings. Her research has significantly contributed to understanding racial disparities in cancer outcomes, shaping the discourse and strategies in the field.

Dr. Nittala’s extensive research has received many local, National, and International recognitions, and left a lasting impression. She became a Royal Society of Public Health Fellow in 2021, and her work has been honored with prestigious local awards such as the UMMC GWIMS Trainee Recognition Award 2021, the UMMC SGSHS Honors Day-The Postdoctoral Fellow Award 2022, and The Pillars- Beacon Award Honorable Mention 2024.

Dr. Nittala is an active member of many National and local professional societies. She is the chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology Research Council, leading discussions and initiatives to advance cancer research. During her postdoctoral training, she served as a UMMC GWIMS trainee representative and an advisory committee member for the UMMC SGSHS Office of Postdoctoral Studies, providing valuable insights and guidance. She serves on the UMMC GWIMS Executive Board as a President, implementing and coordinating an inclusive and supportive climate with unique opportunities for women faculty and learners to network, interact, and collaborate through UMMC GWIMS leadership events, connect share activities, and award ceremonies.

Dr. Nittala’s passion for mentoring is not just a part of her professional life, but a cornerstone of it. She finds great joy in guiding and supporting medical students in their pursuit of individual cancer research. Her commitment to their development is a testament to her dedication. She hopes to continue developing projects to improve access and quality of care for all cancer patients. When she is not in her cancer research element, she can be found in the gym working out or at a studio choreographing.
