Biography
Troy Newman, M.D., Assistant Professor, is a board certified Ophthalmologist and a glaucoma and anterior segment surgical specialist. Dr. Newman received his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine – New Orleans. After completing his Ophthalmology Residency at UMMC, Dr. Newman began his private practice in Jackson, MS. In 2011, Dr. Newman completed a one year fellowship with the University of Alabama Birmingham, Callahan Eye Center and returned to private practice in Jackson. In 2016, Dr. Newman and his family moved to Kenya where he and his wife, also an Ophthalmologist, served together at Tenwek Mission Hospital. Upon returning to the U.S. in 2018, Dr. Newman joined the faculty at UMMC. Dr. Newman has extensive expertise in LASER procedures for vision restoration, management of chronic and acute glaucoma, anterior segment eye surgery, management of acute eye trauma, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS).
When not involved teaching or patient care at UMMC, Dr. Newman and his wife share a passion for international travel and medical missions. They have been blessed with 4 children who, not surprisingly, keep them very busy.
