Jackson Free Clinic Colon Cancer Screening Initiative- Project Collaborator, I am a collaborator with Dr. Roy Duhe in a project proposal to provide the Jackson Free Clinic (JFC) with free fecal immunochemical tests (FITs) to patients for colorectal cancer screening. This project proposal has the support of the Mississippi Colorectal Cancer Roundtable, which is committed to providing the free test kits. It also has the support of the UMMC Division of Digestive Diseases to provide colonoscopies to patients who have positive FIT results. The UMMC Revenue Cycle Single Billing Office has agreed to facilitate processing of indigent care to absorb the costs associated with colonoscopies for individuals who do not have financial means to pay for such a service. Trained JFC volunteers will identify patients eligible for CRC screening. Trained volunteers will then serve as colonoscopy "navigators" for patients with positive FIT results. The project navigators will follow a modified version of the New Hampshire Colonoscopy Navigation Protocol. Such navigation has been documented to improve the probability that patients will properly prepare their bowels for the colonoscopy and complete the procedure.09/2019 - Present
