Biography

Dr. Marilyn Harrington is an Associate Professor in the graduate program at the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Nursing (UMMC SON), where she has served for more than five years. Prior to this role, she taught in the undergraduate program for over 18 years. Over her 23-year career at UMMC, Dr. Harrington has taught and mentored more than 2,000 undergraduate and graduate nursing students. Her passion for teaching and commitment to student success have earned her three nominations for the DAISY Award.
Dr. Harrington is an Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner with experience serving underserved and underrepresented populations. Although she is not currently practicing in this role, she continues to serve her community as a Congregational Health Nurse, focusing on health promotion, disease prevention, and early detection.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Harrington has held leadership roles in diversity, equity, and inclusion, including serving as Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and previously as Director for more than a decade. She completed the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Diversity Leadership Institute Fellowship, the Cornell University Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program, and the UMMC Diversity and Inclusion Professional Development Certificate.
Dr. Harrington is an experienced researcher and has served as Principal Investigator on several funded grants. She currently serves as President-Elect of the UMMC Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS), an association that promotes and support women’s leadership in medical education, research, clinical practice, and administration.
