Biography

Dr. Kris Harrell is a passionate leader in health-system pharmacy and particularly in experiential education of students and residents. He has served as a preceptor for 15 years and has overseen all introductory and advanced pharmacy practice experiences at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy (UMSOP) since 2006. He has given numerous presentations on a variety of pharmacy education and practice issues throughout Mississippi and nationally. Dr. Harrell has also authored publications in journals and textbooks based on original community-based research and other primary care topics. He has been elected to serve in state leadership roles including: President of Mississippi Society of Health-System Pharmacists (MSHP) in 2010, Executive Council Member-at-Large for the Mississippi Pharmacists Association in 2009, and President of the Mississippi College of Clinical Pharmacy in 2008. Additionally, Dr. Harrell has served nationally as a Mississippi ASHP delegate, as a member of the ASHP Task Force on Advanced Pharmacy Practices from 2008-2010, and for the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) as Chair of the Master Preceptor Advisory Board in 2013 and as a member of the Professional Affairs Committee in 2011. He has been honored with several awards including the UMSOP Pharmacy Faculty Instructional Innovations Award in 2008, the MSHP Service Award in 2005, and he was a member of teams recognized for the AACP Lawrence C. Weaver Transformative Community Service Award in 2012 and the ASHP Best Practices Award in 2003. In 2014 Dr. Harrell was recognized as a Fellow of ASHP.
