The major goal of this study is to assess the genetic determinants of cardiac end-organ damage noted on echocardiography in a group of hypertensive African Americans. 1K08HL092065-01 (Fox), NIH/NHLBI		06/2008 - 02/2012
Extramural, Genomic Predictors of Arteriosclerosis in Hypertensives- The Genetic Epidemiology Network of Arteriopathy (GENOA) and the NHLBI Family Blood Pressure Program are performing linkage and association analyses in multiple racial groups to identify and characterize genes influencing blood pressure and the cardiac, cerebral, and renal complications of hypertension. In the current study, genome-wide link age and association analyses will be performed to further explore the genetics of micro- and macro-vessel arteriopathy in the GENOA cohort. Target organ phenotypes include coronary artery atherosclerosis, echocardiographic heart phenotypes, peripheral arterial disease, kidney disease, brain atrophy, and leukoaraiosis.
