Biography

I am from Brazil where I completed my Ph.D. program in the Department of Physiology at the University of Sao Paulo – Ribeirao Preto, Brazil. While at the University of Sao Paulo, my research was focused on understanding the mechanisms leading to baroreflex dysfunction in an experimental model of type 1 diabetes. During my Ph.D. program I learned many techniques which were available in the Department of Physiology. In 2009 I joined the faculty at the Department of Physiology and Biophysics as an Instructor. I have successfully secure NIH extramural funding for my research (NIDDK -2019-2023; NHLBI – 2023-2026). Additionally, I am committed to fulfilling UMMC’s mission on services.
