Biography
Dr. Dongmei Cui is currently a faculty member and educator-scholar in the Department of Advanced Biomedical Education, School of Medicine, UMMC. . Educational scholarship is her primary academic interests. She teaches Medical, Dental and Graduate courses. She is currently Course Director for Medical Review of Histology with Clinical Correlations (Anat. 653), Human Microscopic and Developmental Anatomy (DENT 601A and 601B). She developed integrated curriculum for pre-Med and M4 courses. She played a major role in the development of 3D virtual anatomy research laboratory at the UMMC. She is the principal investigator and Director of Clinical Anatomy Research and Scholarship laboratory (CARSL)/3D Laboratory. Research papers from her laboratory have been published in several journals, one of them was selected as the cover page for Journal of Anatomical Science Education, and another published in Anatomical Science Education, and was featured in the News Letter of AAA. The 3D research laboratory offers Graduate students, Medical students, Residents and Resident fellows various opportunities to conduct educational research. She has integrated 3D virtual learning into the Medical Review of Neurobiology course in 2015 and integrated into the curriculum of Medical Neurobiology course in spring 2016 and 2019.
She was the lead author for developing a textbook titled “Atlas of Histology with Functional and Clinical Correlations.” The book was published by Wolters Kluwer/ Lippincott Williams & Wilkins in August, 2011. This textbook has been ranked as one of a few leading histology textbooks by Doody’s Core Titles library referral service in 2012 and 2016. The textbook has been translated into five languages and is currently in use for teaching histology in 18 medical schools in the U.S.A. Her new textbook, Histology From Clinical Perspective was recently published by Wolters Kluwer, Spring 2023.
