Biography

Dr. Crout graduated from Millsaps College in 1986 with a BS in both Chemistry and History before receiving his MD degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 1990. Subsequently he stayed to complete his pediatric residency in 1993 before serving as chief resident. Over the next eight years he worked in private practice general pediatrics in Clinton, Mississippi, serving on staff at three community hospitals as well as UMMC. He eventually returned to Batson Hospital in 2001, working on the inpatient and outpatient general pediatric services, performing pediatric infectious disease consultations, and operating as the clerkship director for medical students on the pediatric rotations.

In 2006, Dr. Crout became Vice-Chair for Education in the Department of Pediatrics and in 2008, the Residency Program Director. He has served as the Division Chief for Pediatric Hospital Medicine since returning to UMMC and was also the Division Chief of Ambulatory Pediatrics from 2014-2021. He has worked with the community providers as a past president of the Central Mississippi Pediatric Society and as the Medical Director of the UMMC Pediatric Healthline.

Away from the hospital, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, being involved with his church, playing with his Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, hitting golf balls, flyfishing, reading biographies, watching old movies and, sadly, telling dad jokes.
