Biography
Michael A. Collins, D.O., is a board-certified psychiatrist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he serves as the Executive Vice Chair. His work spans clinical operations, service design, strategy and innovation, cross-functional coordination, clinical standards, quality, cross-divisional integration, and department-institution alignment. He practices in adult inpatient and consult-liaison psychiatry, with clinical concentrations in severe mental illness, psychopharmacology, catatonia, ECT/neuromodulation, and high-acuity behavioral health systems.
Dr. Collins is also involved in medical student and resident education, including leadership within the Medical Neuroscience and Behavior Clerkship and core-faculty for resident didactics. His institutional service includes work in hospital formulary stewardship, OPPE/FPPE processes, departmental clinical governance, admissions and clerkship subcommittees, and interdisciplinary workplace violence themes including threat assessment and safety workflows. His professional focus is the development of reliable, high-accountability systems and psychiatric services that support patients, learners, clinicians, and the broader missions of UMMC.
