Biography

Dr. Fred Asher is a seasoned hospitalist and a respected professor of Internal Medicine with a career spanning over two decades. A proud alumnus of the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, Dr. Asher completed his medical degree in 2002 and his residency in Internal Medicine at UMMC in 2005. Following his residency, he dedicated three years to serving patients at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans. His commitment to patient care led him back to UMMC, where he has been a pivotal member of the Division of Hospital Medicine since its inception.

As the Division Director for Hospital Medicine, Dr. Asher has been instrumental in steering the division's direction and expansion, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care. Beyond his directorial duties, he contributes to the medical community as a physician advisor, leveraging his expertise to enhance hospital operations and patient flow. His keen interest in optimizing the hospital system has significantly improved patient care and hospital efficiency.

Dr. Asher's dedication to education, patient care, and system optimization underscores his holistic approach to healthcare, making him a valued leader and mentor at UMMC.
