Biography

Dr. Anderson became the James D. Hardy Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery at UMMC in 2015. Dr. Anderson’s clinical practice focuses solely on abdominal organ transplantation and hepatobiliary/pancreatic surgery. Dr. Anderson joined the faculty at UMMC in late 2011 and led a University Transplant team that has doubled the kidney transplant volume at UMMC. In addition, University Transplant has initiated pediatric kidney transplant, liver transplant and pancreas transplant under his leadership. As part of these efforts, University Transplant has also established an HPB surgery program which is also associated with the UMMC Cancer Center and Research Institute and is Mississippi’s only high volume liver and pancreas surgery program. Before joining UMMC in 2011, Dr. Anderson was a faculty member at Washington University in St. Louis. He completed his fellowship in abdominal transplant surgery at Washington University in St. Louis (2008) and his general surgery residency at Vanderbilt University in (2006). He completed medical school at Emory University. He is a native of Mississippi and obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. Dr. Anderson has been an invited speaker at regional, national, and international conferences. He serves on 2 editorial boards and several committees for national surgical and transplant societies. He has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed articles and 12 book chapters.
