The School of Dentistry recently began new research focused on the role of education in reducing oral caries among children. The two-year-long study with the South Delta School District will be the first of its kind conducted in the United States.

Alumnus of the Year Dr. Carl Mangum and Early Career Award Winner Johnna Riddick are now shaping the next generation of nurses as faculty members at their alma mater. The annual School of Nursing Alumni Awards program also recognized members of the Class of 1974.

Dental graduate Aaron Winters has been dedicated to making a difference in his community throughout his life and dental school career. His plans after graduation are no exception, as he plans to support rural Mississippi communities even after he completes his scholarship requirements.

It may not have been his initial career plan, but Preston Ivy immersed himself in dental hygiene, seeking out every opportunity to get involved. Falling in love with the field, he hopes to continue his education and pursue a degree in dentistry.

Nine young adults with developmental challenges are celebrating a ticket to self-sufficiency with their completion of a program at UMMC aimed at preparing them for the working world.
