UMMC’s focus on quality care and patient satisfaction has paid off in a B, the highest score the Medical Center has ever earned from Leapfrog, a national nonprofit that sets standards for excellence in patient care.

UMMC Grenada’s Leapfrog score is evidence of the Medical Center’s commitment to providing quality health care in other parts of the state, said Dr. LouAnn Woodward, vice chancellor for health affairs and dean of the School of Medicine.

With some campus schools showing increases, the Medical Center recorded another high for the number of learners enrolled in the fall, counting residents and fellows. High also: their quality and commitment.

Alumni, faculty and students celebrated 75 years of nursing education for the UMMC School of Nursing Friday. The first academic nursing program in the state began as part of the School of Medicine in Oxford but moved to Jackson in 1956. The anniversary comes as the school anticipates construction of a new home on the Medical Center campus.

The American Academy of Pediatrics honored Dr. Scott Benton, director of the Division of Forensic Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and medical director of the Children’s Safe Center, with its Award for Outstanding Service to Maltreated Children from the AAP Council on Child Abuse and Neglect.

Children's of Mississippi sparkled at the Mistletoe Marketplace Tween Fashion Show, “Land of Sweets”, sponsored by the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The runway show featured the latest fashion trends, with amazing models including Children’s of Mississippi patients and other members of the UMMC family.
