Children’s of Mississippi surgical care has given Xavier Strahan a strong heart and hands for play. Born with congenital heart defects and thumb hypoplasia, the 3-year-old from Ocean Springs sees experts in cardiology and orthopaedics in follow-up clinic visits at UMMC as well as at the Children’s of Mississippi specialty clinic in Biloxi.

To limit the spread of COVID-19 during the holiday season, Children’s of Mississippi toy drives are virtual this year through wish lists on Amazon and Walmart.com. The wish lists include everything from baby toys to games and arts and crafts kits for teenagers. Purchases from the wish lists ensure patients in the children’s hospital will each receive a gift at Christmas.

Across the state and nation, some families will gather for Thanksgiving dinner despite the dangers associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Medical Center experts offer advice on how to do it safely with a minimum of risk and a maximum of prevention and planning.
