Genetic testing is becoming a force in health care, promising to reveal exactly who is at risk of certain inherited diseases, enabling earlier, life-saving diagnoses and treatment, and more. At UMMC, its impact, now and for the future, has been acknowledged with the creation of the Division of Medical Genetics and Precision Medicine under the direction of Dr. Joe Maher. |
| It’s not your typical summer job: UMMC’s SURE (Summer Undergraduate Research Experience) brings dozens of college students from Mississippi and beyond to Jackson for training in an active biomedical laboratory. Sponsored by the School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences, SURE wrapped up its 2019 session on August 1. |
Depending on their needs, UMMC employees have lots of choices in their quest to be healthy. Among them: Zumba classes, diabetes prevention programs, cooking demonstrations, weight loss challenges and chances to buy fresh veggies at a farmer’s market. The Medical Center’s Office of Well-being has earned a salute for those efforts and more, winning an award given to local employers deemed one of the state's healthy workplaces.
| Several interesting events are scheduled for the upcoming weeks at the Medical Center. |
Medical Center leadership is proud to acknowledge those employees who will celebrate service anniversaries during the week of Aug. 12-18.
