Evaluating the Healing of Diabetic Foot Ulcers with Compounded Anti-Infective Irrigation Therapy

About this Study

The purpose of this study is to learn whether a daily foot bath treatment with antibiotics will heal your diabetic foot ulcer(s).  You will be provided with foot bath and antibiotics/anti-infective solution medication.  You will soak your foot with the ulcer for 10 minutes each day in the foot bath with medications.  Your participation will last for approximately 14 weeks.

18 years old

Inclusion Criteria
  • Must have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes mellitus
  • Must have an open wound of any size with or without fungal infection
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have not received any treatment for ulcer OR previous treatment with oral antibiotics to current wound infection did not work

Exclusion Criteria
  • Untreated or on active treatment for osteomyelitis , exposed bone, or have need for immediate surgery
  • Wear size 15 or larger shoe
  • Recently received IV antibiotics within the past 30 days
  • HgbA1C greater than 14
  • On active cancer treatment
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Unable or unwilling to obtain or wear off-loading footwear (therapeutic shoe designed to provide pressure redistribution)
