On July 1, 1965, Dr. Marion Antoinette Myles became the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s first African American faculty member when she joined the UMMC School of Medicine as an assistant professor of pharmacology and research. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, she had earned her PhD at Iowa State University. She was teaching at what is now Alcorn State University when she was recruited by UMMC.
