Where We’re Needed
Good morning.
I made a presentation last night to the Greenwood Economic Development Foundation, which is a group of business and community leaders invested in and interested in the city’s growth. They asked me to speak about the Medical Center recently taking ownership of the hospital, now UMMC Greenwood, and future plans.
We are still in the transition and evaluation stage, only being in month two as the owner, so I couldn’t give much in the way of concrete details and plans. However, I did give a little of the future considerations and opportunities we’ve already identified. I also took this chance to showcase what type of organization Leflore County and surrounding areas is getting with UMMC in their backyard. I highlighted how our brand slogan, All for Your Health, is more than a tagline, but a driving force guiding everything we do – which now includes their community hospital.

When I say we serve all of Mississippi, it’s very accurate. We take care of patients from every county in Mississippi, and our students come to us from all over the state as well.
The University of Mississippi Medical Center is way more than just a place or list of locations. We are where people need us, whether they know it yet or not. There is a dot in nearly every county with a reach that goes way beyond. And every mark on the map represents a thoughtful, strategic decision to place our services in that community. Every single day across Mississippi, thousands of individual actions – big and small – connected to the Medical Center are making a difference in people’s lives.
Now a little more than a month since we assumed ownership of UMMC Greenwood, the impactful actions in the area that are rooted to the state’s only academic center are magnified and growing. What we are bringing to that community, and every other one we are in or near, is more than buildings with our logo on them or locations where a student/trainee or telehealth connection is. The true value of each dot on this map is the people wearing the UMMC badge.
You are the asset that is strategically located across the state, helping people, collaborating with other organizations, businesses or communities and solving some of Mississippi’s most pressing problems together. Each dot on this map represents your work and the areas surrounding each one is home to the people who benefit from your dedication. Through teamwork, adaptability and a little connect-the-dots, we’re making a difference and creating A Healthier Mississippi.
