Your Work and Health Care Home

Good morning.

I hope you had a good, fulfilling holiday – including eating some (lots of) good food.

The temperature drop this week signals we are quickly approaching winter and entering the sickness season. The flu vaccination you received should provide some measure of protection from that virus, but seasonal sickness could still impact you or your loved ones.

05.jpgToday is a good opportunity to remind you to consider using UMMC services for any of your health care needs – including vision and dental. You should use the options that are best for you or your family, but UMMC clinics can be your convenient providers of choice. From a sniffle to managing your blood pressure to nagging knee pain, UMMC offers you a wide range of clinical services. See a comprehensive list here with links to more information about each type of service. Take a look. There may be something we offer that you or your family member gets from a community provider that you would prefer to or more easily receive here. And establishing routine relationships with UMMC providers is a good way to keep all your health care needs connected.

UMMC offers a full range of primary and urgent health care, basic procedures (such as colonoscopy) and complicated surgeries. In some of our clinics, you can see a provider within a day or two including Ear, Nose and Throat, Allergy, Cardiology, Family Medicine (including open scheduling through MyChart), Orthopaedic urgent care, OB-GYN midwifery, Preventive Medicine and cosmetic procedures through Plastic Surgery.

One way to learn about or keep up with the types of care the state’s only academic medical center provides is by reading the monthly UMMC-health-news-you-can-use newsletter CONSULT. Delivered to your email inbox, CONSULT features topics that can help you live a healthier life or that can inform you about new ways to manage or treat an existing condition. Sign up for it here and the most recent edition will be sent to your inbox.

Next time you need care – or you want to establish a relationship for routine visits and/or preventive services – consider UMMC providers. A healthier you can be a step toward A Healthier Mississippi.

Signed, Lou Ann Woodward, M.D.
