New facilities for cancer and dementia research are several steps closer to reality thanks to a record year for fundraising at UMMC.

A beam signed by faculty was lifted by crane to the top of the new UMMC School of Nursing to cap off a topping-out ceremony Friday. The new building will accommodate increasing nursing enrollment on the Medical Center campus.

An increase in physician scientists at UMMC is among the goals of the program, which has been reinvigorated with through strong leadership in the School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences. With several students in the pipeline, the potential for new program recruits and avenues of funding fuel long-term success.
