After graduating in 2017 from the Medical Center’s School of Dentistry and completing her residency there, Dr. Alexa Lampkin joined the SOD faculty. Fast forward, and Lampkin has shattered yet another glass ceiling by becoming the first woman dentist to serve on the Mississippi Board of Dental Examiners in its history. | |

Walter Makamson battled kidney disease for years – until his sister stepped forward to be a live organ donor, giving him one of her kidneys in an act of love and selflessness. UMMC Grenada, where Makamson gets care following his transplant on the UMMC Jackson campus, on Friday celebrated the gift of life as part of April’s national organ donation tribute. | |
| With six publications, eight travel and presentation awards, and three grants under her belt, and a postdoctoral appointment awaiting her, Jones-Muhammad is already thinking about the next step. She wants to train the next generation of neuroscientists “to be brave enough to learn something new and still be themselves.” |
