Patients who get post-concussion care quickly have better chances of a full recovery. With this in mind, Children’s of Mississippi now offers a weekly clinic dedicated solely to providing post-concussion follow-up care quickly.

JoJo Dodd has a made a living everywhere from the comedy stage to the classroom, and on behalf of everyone from Mississippi State rooters to Mitt Romney. Now the medical student is about to enter a new career, one he was called to after a pair of defining moments: an “existential crisis” far from home and an instant of connection with a stranger who needed a hand to hold onto.

Classroom work might be just about over for the School of Dentistry’s Class of 2022, but learning to do life after school has just begun. On an April 15 visit to campus, SOD graduate Dr. Shalin Patel gave fourth-year students insight and perspective about what lies ahead as they pursue their careers.

When Tiara Love fits a nervous cancer patient with a wig at one of the scariest points in her life, Love knows how it feels. Diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in high school, Love herself wore a wig as she lost her hair during treatment. Her job now at the Cancer Center and Research Institute is to be a resource for patients who need education, understanding and a head covering that meets their needs.

Highlighting the health benefits of getting those steps in, Medical Center employees and students took to the sidewalks on National Walking Day Friday. The activity is proven to promote heart health and reduce stress.

UMMC faculty and trainees brought in 102 extramural grants and awards from January through March 2022, funding work on cardiovascular disease, cancer, substance use and other areas.

Medical Center faculty and staff often are recognized regionally, nationally and internationally for their academic or medical achievements. These accolades place UMMC among health science centers worldwide.
