UMMC and Children’s of Mississippi leaders thanked Trustmark Monday for its longtime support and its $500,000 gift to the Campaign for Children’s of Mississippi, which will help the seven-story children’s hospital expansion open this fall. The campaign has raised 81 percent of its $100 million goal.

Mississippi Medicaid recipients in need of lung cancer screenings sometimes avoid them because that form of insurance historically hasn’t covered the cost. Because the Division of Medicaid is now paying for lung cancer screenings, recipients stand a much better chance of getting an early diagnosis that comes with a much higher rate of survival.
