A federal agency confirmed UMMC’s Center for Telehealth as a national leader in telehealth services by designating it as a Telehealth Center of Excellence in 2017. Since then, UMMC Telehealth has focused on research, education and clinical innovation and fine-tuning access to quality care, especially for the state’s rural residents.

New ways of training residents – physicians learning their specialties – are part of the brainchild of the American Medical Association, which funded eight projects to better prepare physicians for the realities of medical practice and the health care system. UMMC is one of the institutions charged with changing the face of residency training.

If you've ever wondered why you can hear just fine in a crowded room, but you can’t quite make out the words of the person sitting right next to you, you're not alone. A new study led by a UMMC otolaryngology faculty member indicated about half of the respondents in a national hearing survey reported their hearing is good, despite actually having mild hearing loss.
