Gabrielle Smith became UMMC’s youngest patient to undergo a heart transplant less than a month after a tragic house fire claimed the lives of her parents and one of her sisters. Now a year old, she’s thriving thanks to the care of the Children’s Heart Center and her great aunt and guardian, Cindy Thompson of Bassfield.
