If you’ve ever wondered where that IV, bedpan, surgical mask or thousands upon thousands of other medical supplies are stored and dispatched from at the Medical Center – well, this is where.

As the latest holder of an endowed chair at UMMC, Dr. Shannon Pittman has attained a rare faculty honor. The Alma Lowry Hill Chair of Family Medicine is named for a nurse practitioner who remained devoted throughout her life to the same values that have shaped the physician’s career.

When elite athletes gather at professional football training camps, their therapy and rehabilitation needs are apparent even before the season opens. A new partnership between the New Orleans Saints and UMMC’s Sports Residency Program placed one resident in the August camp to learn about – and provide – physical therapy to NFL players who want to get back on the field and maximize their future playing time.

Several interesting events are scheduled for the upcoming weeks at the Medical Center.
