Undergrad School: Mississippi Christian University
Medical School: University of Mississippi School of Medicine
Why did you choose UMMC?:
UMMC is a true hidden gem. I visited programs across dozens of states, and nowhere else did I find the same combination of world-class surgical training and a genuinely close-knit culture. At UMMC, there is a clear commitment to developing outstanding neurosurgeons, but what stood out even more was the way people invest in one another. The residents and attendings deeply care about their colleagues, trainees, and families while maintaining a rigor necessary to produce exceptional surgeons. Importantly, Jackson offers an affordable and highly livable setting compared to the vast majority.
Field Interest:
Pediatrics, Spine, Peripheral Nerve
Hobbies:
Weight-lifting and nutrition, College football (Roll Tide), tennis, pottery, naps with my newborn son.
What do you like about the program?:
The breadth and complexity of pathology, quality of operative mentorship, graduated autonomy afforded to residents, and tremendous neurosurgical needs of the state are unparalleled among any program I visited. It was abundantly evident that I would be able to thrive professionally and personally as a husband and father. Leaders and peers in the program make a concerted effort to get to know me personally and take sincere interest in my growth. UMMC offers a rare combination of elite surgical training, mentorship, supportive community, and quality of life that made it a clear choice for me.
