Student and Employee Health

Student and Employee Health (SEH) at UMMC is designed to support the health and wellbeing of our students and employees. Most of what we at SEH do to support students involves onboarding and annual requirements specific to those continuing their academic journey in a healthcare setting. However, we are also available for other student services. We are not staffed to provide primary care, and our record keeping is meant to keep personal health records separate from your academic records and those health records that apply to learning and working in a healthcare setting. We are available to see students who suffer injuries, especially needlesticks and other sharps injuries, as they participate in the care of our patients as part of their education. Additionally, we are able to provide travel medicine services to students who are traveling overseas for any part of their educational content, including volunteering and mission work that could be used to enhance clinical learning. This includes a pre-travel consultation and provision of travel-related medications and vaccinations, at a discounted rate. Student and Employee Health tracks exposures that sometimes occur to students, like coming into contact with communicable diseases like tuberculosis, pertussis, and measles. If this occurs, students are including in our contact tracing, and appropriate testing will be provided free of charge. SEH also provides numerous vaccines that are important from a public health or clinical care standpoint, usually free of charge or at a discounted rate. SEH also provides most UMMC employees and students with their seasonal flu shots. SEH offers counseling services to students through our Student Counseling Services. This is confidential and free of charge, with daily appointments Monday-Friday, available to all enrolled students through our Licensed Professional Counselors. We do not provide urgent care services, but these are available through UMMC’s Quick Care Clinic. We also do not act as primary care physicians for students but do strongly encourage all students to have a PCP for regular health maintenance exams and management of acute and chronic issues. Students with questions about any of our services should call (601) 984-1185.
