Information for Incoming Students

Dear Class of 2021,

We hope you are having a great summer and are excited about getting ready for orientation in August. You will be required to attend orientation Aug. 8-11 at the School of Dentistry. On Monday, Aug. 14, the annual ASDA golf tournament and freshman welcome cookout will be held at Lake Caroline. This is a time to meet upperclassmen, faculty and staff of the dental school.

Here are a few things you need to know about orientation week.

  • You will be required to park in the stadium parking lot. There are shuttles/buses that can provide transportation, although most students prefer to walk. Dress attire during orientation will be a collared shirt or polo-style shirt and dress slacks for men; and a dress or dress slacks and blouse for women and comfortable walking shoes.
  • During orientation you will have computer orientation and register for your courses. You MUST have your laptop with you to register for your courses. You will purchase your supplies and instruments, and receive assignments for lockers. You will hear presentations from the Office of Research, the Office of Records and Registrar, the Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor, the Office of Academic Affairs and the Office of Student Affairs. You will also hear from the Office of Academic Support.
  • There will be presentations from various organizations from on and off campus. Common orientation is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 9, with incoming students from all schools at UMMC. You will receive more detailed instructions from our office soon. The schedule is posted below.

We look forward to seeing you at orientation.
