Just because the COVID-19 vaccine is free doesn't mean it's easy to get. Many of those served by the student-run Jackson Free Clinic can't access the Internet to make appointments to get the shot at state-run, drive-through operations. The clinic has stepped up, providing the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine to an ever-changing patient base.

For Sandra Horne, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association Educator of the Year, the classroom is more than a place for teaching dental hygiene students how to clean a patient’s teeth or prevent and treat diseases of the gums. In the School of Dentistry, she imparts wisdom on how to take pride in their work and have genuine concern for the provision of optimum care.

Throughout April, giving to the fund to help pay for the Kathy and Joe Sanderson Tower can be twice as nice. The Texas-based Madison Charitable Foundation will double every gift made this month to the Campaign for Children’s of Mississippi up to $100,000. A COVID-19-safe drive-through giving event is planned for April 29.

UMMC's Group on Women in Medicine and Science recognized Medical Center faculty, staff and students who have demonstrated exceptional support for its initiatives, while the National Science Foundation bestowed a graduate research fellowship on a second-year PhD student at UMMC.
