Long days, longer nights and exhaustive planning and policy-making describe the efforts of the Medical Center's Incident Command, a group well-versed in emergency response and infectious diseases medicine. Dr. Alan Jones and Dr. Jonathan Wilson are among those leading the charge in UMMC's COVID-19 battle.

When it became clear that volunteers were needed for deployment in the war on COVID-19, scores of UMMC students stepped forward and armed themselves with swabs, masks, thermometers and more. With the creation of the Disaster Management Course, they’re getting credit for their work – in more ways than one.

As COVID-19 continues to spread, Mississippians are urged to socially distance and to stay home whenever possible. Medical Center experts say such isolation can be harmful to those with mental health challenges, including suicidal tendencies.
