A new business venture is allowing the Medical Center to expand its adult hospital capacity and operating room availability. Surgeons are performing a number of short-stay procedures at Merit Health Madison, increasing patient access to specialty services in central Mississippi and providing another training ground for the next generation of health care providers.

Barbara Westerfield's tenure as UMMC's registrar spanned sun splashed Commencement Sundays outside the City Auditorium to Friday morning graduation ceremonies inside the cavernous Mississippi Coliseum. She now hands the baton to her longtime understudy, Emily Cole, whose work ethic and affinity for 21st century technological tools promises a bright future.

More than 50 current Medical Center faculty will begin the 2019-2020 academic year with a promotion in rank, newly granted tenure, or both. Faculty are listed alphabetically, by school, in rank order of professor with tenure, professor, associate professor with tenure and associate professor.

A professor of medicine and associate dean for veterans administration education earns a place on a national medical association council, while outstanding UMMC faculty and student leaders garner kudos from the ASB.

Several interesting events are scheduled for the upcoming weeks at the Medical Center.
