Edgar Meyer has made a serious impact across the UMMC campus through his leadership on the Associated Student Body, his faith-derived sense of service and his efforts in the classroom and lab as a student in the School of Graduate Studies in the Health Science’s Ph.D. program in clinical anatomy.

Throughout her young life, Denise Powell has been fortunate to work, or hang out, with celebrities who make the news and celebrities who report it. But the medical school graduate says her real privilege as a physician will be working with the less fortunate and the unknown.

If you were a physician, who would you want taking care of you and your family? That question is answered every year by medical students who are asked to nominate their peers, as well as residents, for induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

Keeping patients safe from harm is paramount to UMMC caregivers. The commitment to drive change and make measurable progress isn’t affected by the scores given to hospitals nationwide by a private hospital ratings group, but real-time data collected internally guide frontline caregivers in reducing variability in patient safety.
