The School of Dentistry completed a massive service project last week, providing free dental care to 1,444 underserved and uninsured children, adults and veterans, beating last year’s record. The weeklong event gave students and volunteers from several UMMC schools the opportunity to learn and to see patients under faculty supervision. |
| Hunger is a social disparity that impacts the well-being of young and old. It’s a concern for UMMC caregivers whose patients are at risk. In less than three hours Friday, otolaryngology staff and students volunteering at the Mississippi Food Network packed a record-breaking 4,320 meals for delivery to children in need. |
Friends and colleagues of Dr. Roddy Scarbrough, who has risen to the highest ranks of organized dentistry, describe him as down to earth, humble and incredibly dedicated to the profession. Scarbrough, who has devoted much of his life to making sure dentists’ voices are heard, is the most recent recipient of the Dental Alumnus of the Year Award. | |
| Several interesting events are scheduled for the upcoming weeks at the Medical Center. |
